Recipe Tips

For the best Blue Lagoon Mocktail chill the blue curaçao syrup and 7 Up before making the drink. This reduces the need for ice.

If you want a stronger orange flavor you could try switching the fresh lemon juice for orange juice. I haven’t personally tried this, but I feel like it would still taste incredible.

For a fun twist switch out garnishes to fit party themes. A cherry on top adds a burst of color for patriotic events whereas a simple umbrella or citrus twist can make the drink look much more tropical. A fresh orange slice or sprig of mint is a great garnish idea too.

If you truly wish to make this drink alcoholic, a shot of vodka will do just fine.

FAQs

What does blue curacao syrup taste like?

It’s a sweetened syrup that has a light and refreshing orange taste to it that really comes through in your drink. Dyed with a blue hue this syrup is both tasty and pretty.

What type of glass do they use for a Blue Lagoon?

Traditionally this drink is served in a tall hurricane glass or a highball glass, but you can really serve it in just any tall glass that you already have on hand.

Can I use lemon concentrate instead of fresh squeezed?

Yes, while the fresher squeezed lemons do give a much nicer flavor to the drink there’s nothing wrong with taking an easy shortcut and using bottled lemon juice once in a while either.

Can I make a Blue Lagoon in advance?

While you could squeeze lemon juice and prep garnishes in advance you really don’t want to mix the drink before you’re ready to serve. This is because we don’t want the soda to lose carbonation or the ice to melt. For the full experience, we want cold ice and our 7-Up to be nice and bubbly.

Where does the blue coloring come from?

Curacao liqueur is colorless so the coloring comes from dye. The syrup’s coloring is from dye as well.

Does the blue coloring of blue curacao syrup affect the flavoring?

The blue coloring comes from food grade coloring, and it does not affect the flavoring of the syrup.
