Why This Recipe Works

  • Thanks to the blue hues this colored drink is perfect for so many special occasions including baby showers, themed parties, the Fourth of July, and as just a fun summer drink. Serve your blue lemonade anywhere and it’s always going to be a hit.
  • It’s easy to make. Seriously, just a few steps, and you’re done. The ingredients list and prep are both so minimal you might even feel like you missed something, but nope. This recipe is just simple and perfect as-is.
  • An iced blue raspberry lemonade is refreshing. You can really taste the flavors of the drink with every sip. My family has given this drink a rating of ten thumbs up, haha.

Ingredients

  • Lemons: You can use freshly squeezed lemons for the freshest flavor but there’s nothing wrong with taking a shortcut and using premade lemonade too. Just omit the sugar for the recipe as it would have already been included in your drink.
  • Blue raspberry syrup: This is where the color and flavor come from so it’s an important component of this beverage. I ordered my bottle of Torani Blue Raspberry Syrup off of Amazon and you can find it here too.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start by making a simple syrup for the lemonade by mixing water and sugar in a small saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Bring the mix to a simmer and stir frequently until the sugar has been completely dissolved. Remove from heat.

  1. Prepare the lemonade by juicing your fresh lemons (if using fresh lemons).
  2. Combine the lemon juice and the simple syrup in a pitcher and add in cold water, your flavored syrup, and ice.

Recipe Tips

Keep your blue lemonade in a covered pitcher in the fridge for up to a week. For best results drink when freshest.

If you have leftover blue raspberry lemonade consider pouring it into ice trays and placing it in the freezer. The next time you make this drink, use your homemade ice cubes so that your drink doesn’t become watered down as they melt.

Honey could be used instead of sugar in the simple syrup recipe but you may need more or less to sweeten your drink to your preference.

FAQs

Can lemonade go bad?

Yes, like with all things expirations and best by dates do happen. Your homemade lemonade can keep well for up to a week but after that, you may notice discoloration, sour smells, mold, or other signs that your drink is no longer good to drink. Dispose of the drink and wash your container well before making a new batch.

Where was lemonade invented?

Fun fact this drink has been around for over 1500 years! While the blue raspberry part hasn’t been added until much more recent times, the original recipe was a lemon and honey wine from Egypt. Of course, there are also reports that believe sparkling lemonade was invented in Paris, France in 1676. Lemonade didn’t come to America until 1838 and that recipe included egg whites. So lemonade has been around for a while and gone through many changes over the years.

Can I use other Torani syrup flavors?

You can use any flavored syrup that you think would pair well with the sweet lemon drink in your glass. Simply add it in place of the blue raspberry for a unique and wonderful concoction. You can also use flavored syrups from other brands but I love Torani due to the cost and variety in flavors. They even have a website with all of their flavored syrups available for shipping if you plan to buy in bulk.

Blue Raspberry Lemonade

This blue raspberry lemonade is bold in both color and flavor! You can taste the distint lemonade and blue raspberry flavors. Alex could not stop drinking this and my 6 year old said this recipe deserves "10 thumbs up!!"
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 4 minutes
Total Time: 14 minutes
Servings: 4 cups

Ingredients

Simple Syrup

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Lemonade

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice - freshly squeezed, about 3-4 lemons
  • 1 1/2 cups cold water - you may want to start with just 1 cup of water and add ice, so that it's not too diluted. See notes.
  • 3 tablespoons blue raspberry syrup - I used Torani brand
  • Ice - however much you want, I used 1-2 cups worth
  • fresh mint - for garnish

Equipment

Instructions

Simple Syrup

  • Place water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stir frequently until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove from heat. (This step doesn't take too long, maybe 4-5 minutes is all).

Make the Blue Raspberry Lemonade

  • Juice the lemons.
  • Combine the lemon juice and simple syrup in a small pitcher. Add the cold water and flavored syrup and ice. Stir to combine. Taste and adjust amount of water added if needed.
  • Pour into serving glasses. Garnish with fresh mint if desired. Enjoy cold.

Notes

Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice is preferred, however if you’re in a pinch you can use pre-made lemonade and just add the blue raspberry flavored syrup to the lemonade (forgoing the simple syrup, since the lemonade will already be sweetened).
Cold water: When adding the cold water to the fresh lemon juice, I start by adding just 1 cup of water and working my way up to 1/2 cup. I like my lemonade to have a very profound lemonade taste, but others may prefer something less strong.
Blue Raspberry flavored syrup: I used Torani brand, which you can buy off Amazon here
Recipe yields about 4 cups, lingering on the side of 5 cups depending on how much water and ice you add.
